The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has reported that 70.63% of people in the capital received their second COVID-19 vaccine dose.
With over 70% of the population in Bangkok having had their second dose of Covid-19 vaccine, this translates to 5.43 million people having 2 shots. Bangkok deputy governor Sophon Phisutthiwong stated that the BMA was prepared for the impending country reopening to international tourists who were vaccinated. The BMA has stated it stands ready to report its Bangkok Sandbox measures for the reopening to the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration.
Pol Lt Gen Sophon spoke during a meeting with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation via a teleconference. The BMA expects to reach the 80% mark in regards to Bangkok residents who would receive their second vaccine dose within Oct 30.
From November 1, the government plans to re-open 15 provinces including Bangkok to fully vaccinated visitors from a list of low-risk countries, that has yet to be confirmed. However it has also been confirmed from the Health Minister that there still will be a ‘quarantine’ of 1 night, that is, visitors will need to book a SHA approved hotel to await the results of their COVID tests.
Additionally during the BMA inspections of 247 local businesses at shopping malls between Oct 14 and Oct 15, it was found that 244 of them had strictly followed Covid guidelines. It as reported that the 3 businesses who were found to be in violation had been given a warning and advised that they would face a closure order if they fail to follow the guidelines.
Bangkok logged 1,037 new coronavirus cases with 10 more deaths on Tuesday. Of the new cases, 812 were from the capital while the remaining 225 had homes in other provinces but received treatment at hospitals in Bangkok, said the deputy governor.
