In response to the emergence of new cluster cases, health and local authorities are reinstating the home isolation program and the community isolation program for low-risk COVID-19 cases.
Satit Pitutacha, Deputy Minister of Public Health, reported that health authorities expect an increase in new cases of COVID-19 in the 1-2 weeks following the New Year period. With the Omicron variant expected to be the dominant strain, his department will prioritize home and community isolation treatment programs for patients with mild symptoms.
Satit added that beds, medicines and medical equipment are well prepared to deal with the new wave.
In the capital, the Bangkok Metropolitan Government is reopening its community isolation centers, with separate facilities to accommodate children and adults. City Hall is also communicating with the general public about the safety and effectiveness of this self-isolation treatment protocol, which allows hospitals to keep their beds available for severe cases.
