The number of Indian tourists visiting Thailand is expected to reach 500,000 by 2022, which is about five times higher than the 100,000 recorded in January. According to Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, the country’s government is expecting the tourists to generate around 22 billion baht in revenue.
To attract more Indian visitors, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has launched various promotional campaigns and incentives. It also noted that wedding tourism is very popular in the country. It has also set a goal of holding 400 events related to this industry this year.
Besides India, the TAT is also focusing on other countries such as the Middle East and Thailand’s neighbors until the peak season ends in September. This increase in the number of international tourists has been attributed to the positive effects of the pandemic. According to Thanakorn, the agency is expecting the number of tourists to reach between 7 to 10 million by 2022, and it is expecting to generate about 1.5 trillion Baht in revenue by the end of that year. This is significantly less than the previous year’s revenue.
