Thailand’s tourism industry might generate 3 trillion Baht if it recovers

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Thailand’s tourism industry has shown a remarkable recovery following the pandemic. It noted that the sector could generate around 3 trillion Baht in revenue in the next two years. The comments were made during the government’s explanation of the proposed 2023 budget, which was criticized by the opposition.

Before the outbreak of the pandemic, the number of international visitors to Thailand was estimated at 39.8 million, which contributed to over 3 trillion Baht in total national income. However, in 2021, the number of visitors decreased to 430,000.

The number of international tourists visiting Thailand increased from the start of this year to May, reaching 1.31 million. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports projects that the number of tourists visiting the country could reach 2.7 to 3 million by September and over a million by December 2022.

The ministry projects that the number of international tourists visiting Thailand this year will reach around 7 million. It also expects the country’s tourism revenue to reach 2.4 trillion to 3 trillion by 2024. The tourism minister noted that the country’s health and medical tourism industry is still a strong sell, especially after the Prime Minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia.
