Six different Bangkok nightclubs subjected to police inspections

Last night, 200 police officers were sent out to investigate various nightlife spots in the Bangkok area. Fortunately, no major problems were uncovered. Meanwhile, the police chief is urging the owners of entertainment centers to do the right thing. Establishments that serve illegal drugs, carry firearms, or open before their permitted hour will be shut down for 5 years.

About two hundred officers, supervised by Royal Thai Police Deputy Commissioners Torsak Sukvimol and Surachate Hakparn, checked out six different Bangkok nightlife hotspots. The inspected properties were thought to be owned by foreign entities operating through proxies. KBangkok, Space, Hollywood, Brooz, Asgard, and Baby Face were just some of the places that hosted the parties. A random sampling of patrons’ urine was taken, and their bags were searched for weapons, by the police. They checked IDs and made sure nobody under 18 was present at each location.

Pol. Gen. Torsak stated that the examination was conducted in an effort to identify any weapons, drugs, or minors present in the establishments. He said businesses found in violation of the legislation on the aforementioned matters will be forced to close for 5 years. Any business owner who ignores a court order to close their establishment and continues to do business there is subject to a one-year prison sentence.

According to the deputy head of police, it is the duty of entertainment establishments to curb drug use, weapon possession, and entry by minors. Foreign investors running illegal mafia-style entertainment venues, he admitted, are a growing problem. The police department is well aware of the gravity of the situation, and they have ordered local police units to conduct stringent inspections and crack down on this behavior.

According to Pol. Gen. Surachate, last night’s inspections turned up no evidence of misconduct at any of the locations checked (31 October). No illegal drugs were located on the persons of the three consumers whose urine tested positive for narcotics. Pol. Gen. Surachate remarked that the percentage of patrons at entertainment venues with positive pee tests was quite low, and the businesses cooperated with investigators.
