Celebration of Loy Krathong Will Promote Environmental Awareness

On Tuesday, November 8, communities all throughout Thailand will gather to celebrate Loy Krathong in spectacular fashion. The government has just released its nationwide advertising for the upcoming celebrations, which aims to encourage sustainability and the perpetuation of Thai cultural traditions.

Loy Krathong is a traditional Thai and Southeast Asian celebration honoring the Goddess of Water. During the celebration, people will release krathongs, which are traditional baskets filled with flowers and set afloat on water.

Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has asked citizens to assist promote Thai culture and history during APEC Leaders’ Week and to explain Thai customs to visitors from other countries.

The festival’s national campaign intends to increase local soft power by informing international visitors of the festival’s rich heritage. Attendees at Loy Krathong celebrations are urged to dress in traditional garb and take part in the holiday’s many local recreational activities, including traditional and folk performances.

Many other government departments and business companies have worked with the ministry this year to help make sure illness prevention efforts are sufficient. In addition to fireworks, alcoholic beverages will be off-limits at the celebration sites.

Meanwhile, spectators are urged to employ krathongs made from renewable resources. Participants in group celebrations are also urged to pool their krathong baskets in an effort to reduce trash.
