Pheu Thai Party Forms New Government Coalition Excluding Move Forward Party

Pheu Thai Party, led by Dr. Chonlanan Srikaew, has made a critical decision to form a new government coalition without the inclusion of the Move Forward Party. The announcement of the new alliance’s members will be made tomorrow.

This move was prompted by the inability of the Move Forward Party to assemble an 8-party government coalition, with their leader, Mr. Pita Limjaroenrat, failing to secure enough endorsement votes in the joint assembly sitting between the House of Representatives and the Senate to become the Prime Minister.

Instead, Pheu Thai Party is expected to nominate one of its own Prime Ministerial candidates, Mr. Srettha Thavisin, for the endorsement vote on August 4th.

In a press conference held today, Pheu Thai Party’s leaders, including deputy party leader Phumtham Wechayachai and secretary-general Prasert Jantararuangtong, stated that Move Forward Party was asked to step down from the coalition due to a disagreement over Lese Majeste law reform.

Pheu Thai will now extend invitations to other parties, beyond the initial 8-party alliance led by Move Forward, to join the new government coalition. Meanwhile, Move Forward Party will assume the role of an opposition party in the lower house.

Pheu Thai Party emphasized its commitment to maintaining the monarchy’s status quo as the unifying institution for the Thai people, while also focusing on resolving the economic crisis and hardships faced by the population.
