The Pink Line monorail extension project in Bangkok has hit a snag following an incident where liquid cement was accidentally spilled on a vehicle near the Impact Muang Thong Thani station, prompting the Department of Rail Transport to halt construction activities for a week. This decision comes after the construction mishap that left the rear window of a passenger car damaged and the vehicle’s trunk smeared with cement.
Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, addressing the incident, has directed the Rail Transport Department to collaborate with its consulting firm to review and enhance the contractor’s operational protocols, aiming to avert such mishaps in the future. In response to the oversight, Northern Bangkok Monorail (NBM), the project’s concessionaire, faces a reduction in its performance rating, potentially impacting its eligibility for future government projects.
Expressing regret over the accident, Minister Suriya emphasized the paramount importance of safety at construction sites, acknowledging the inconvenience and potential hazards posed to the public. The incident resulted in minor injuries to a passenger, who received immediate medical attention at a local hospital. This event underscores the need for stringent safety measures and oversight in large-scale urban infrastructure projects.
