This victory makes Panipak the first Thai athlete to win two Olympic gold medals in any sport, marking a historic moment for the nation.
Panipak, who announced her retirement following the Paris Games, concluded her illustrious career with this win. After the match, she celebrated by grabbing a Thai flag and embracing her coach. “I have so much pain,” Panipak remarked on the eve of her 27th birthday, citing a broken knee and other injuries. Despite the physical toll, she leaves the sport with a perfect record. “I have a gym in Thailand,” she added, inviting anyone interested to train with her.
In other Olympic news, Theerapong Silachai earned a silver medal in the Men’s 61 kg weightlifting event, while Surajana Khampao claimed a bronze medal in the Women’s 49 kg weightlifting category.
