Thailand Launches Mobile App for Digital Driver’s Licences

Thailand’s Department of Land Transport (DLT) has unveiled a new mobile application designed to simplify the process for motorists by allowing them to carry a digital version of their driver’s licence. The QR Licence app, launched to enhance convenience and improve accessibility, means drivers are no longer required to keep a physical licence on hand.

The mobile app, available for both Android and iOS devices, enables users to display their driver’s licence on their smartphones or tablets. In addition to the digital licence, the app provides important personal details such as blood type and any known drug allergies, ensuring that key information is available in case of an emergency. Moreover, the application is programmed to alert drivers when their licence is nearing its expiration date.

One of the app’s notable features is its ability to allow users to share real-time travel routes, locations, and vehicle registration details with family or friends. This feature, combined with the option to send emergency notifications via phone or SMS, could prove essential during accidents or unforeseen incidents on the road.

Beyond these functions, the app also serves as a portal for updates and announcements from the Department of Land Transport, keeping drivers informed of any relevant news.

Motorists can download the app through Google Play Store or the App Store. It is compatible with licences equipped with a QR code, which is available on the latest versions of Thai driver’s licences.

Seksom Akraphand, the director-general of the DLT, emphasized that the introduction of the app is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to integrate technology into public services and enhance safety for road users.
