Fire Engulfs Ghost Ship at Koh Chang Resort

A massive fire engulfed a defunct floating hotel known as the “ghost ship” at the Koh Chang Grand Lagoona Resort in Trat province on Tuesday, sending thick black smoke over the island. The fire, reported shortly before noon, destroyed the seven-story vessel, which had long been a popular tourist attraction and photo spot.

Firefighters responded to the blaze, which reportedly began on the lower deck of the abandoned ship, spreading rapidly to the upper levels. Despite their efforts, they were unable to contain the flames before the vessel was completely gutted.

Before the fire erupted, workers had reportedly been welding inside the structure, but the exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The Koh Chang Grand Lagoona Resort, which opened in 2004, is known for its nautical-themed accommodations. The “ghost ship” originally served as high-end lodging with 200 rooms, but financial challenges forced its closure. Since then, the ship has remained a dormant feature of the resort, attracting visitors with its eerie reputation and use as a film location.

The incident drew considerable attention, as locals and tourists witnessed the destruction of the iconic site. Authorities have not released any findings regarding the possible connection between the welding activities and the fire.
