Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO) has launched a trial of air-conditioned electric buses (EV BUS) as part of its initiative to modernize the province’s public transportation system and progress towards becoming a Smart City.

On December 2, 2024, PPAO President Mr. Rewat Areerob and Permanent Secretary Mr. Akkarawat Sirithanthanakorn led a press event at the Kosimbi Meeting Room. Attended by officials, students, media, and public representatives, the event showcased the EV BUS project’s readiness.
EV BUS Features and Objectives
The introduction of the EV BUS aims to:
- Replace traditional wooden buses (Pho Thong) with environmentally friendly electric vehicles.
- Provide modern, safe, convenient, and cost-effective transportation for Phuket residents and tourists.
- Reduce traffic congestion and enhance Phuket’s sustainable transportation system.
The buses are equipped with:
- 21 seats and additional accessibility features for children, elderly, and disabled passengers.
- GPS tracking systems, USB charging ports, CCTV cameras, and wheelchair ramps.
- A user-friendly app to track buses in real time.
Service Details
Phuket’s EV BUS fleet consists of 24 buses serving three key routes:
- Saphan Hin – Central Phuket
- Ao Chalong Pier – Super Cheap Department Store
- Rassada Pier – The Mall Department Store (Water Park)
These routes connect major tourist attractions, piers, schools, communities, and shopping areas, catering to both locals and international visitors.
Affordable and Inclusive Fares
- Fare: 15 baht for the entire route.
- Exemptions: Students in uniform, monks, nuns, the elderly, and visually impaired individuals travel free.
Vision for the Future
Mr. Rewat emphasized that the project aligns with Phuket’s goal of becoming a sustainable international tourist destination while enhancing the province’s image.
