BANGKOK — Thonglor police conducted a pre-dawn raid on Sunday, December 8, targeting a gay party at a hotel in Bangkok’s Wattana district. Acting on intelligence received on December 6, authorities uncovered illicit drug use at the event, detaining hundreds of attendees, including three foreigners, for drug testing that lasted several hours.
The operation, led by Thonglor Police in collaboration with Metropolitan Police Division 5 and Police 191, began at 1:30 a.m. in room 2001 on the 20th floor of a North Klongtoey hotel. Officers discovered Category 1 and Category 2 narcotics, including Ecstasy and Ketamine, during their initial search. Among the detained individuals were Thai and foreign male partygoers dressed uniformly in identical underwear.
Preliminary investigations identified 120 attendees, including a TV actor, a former beauty clinic executive, professors, doctors, celebrities, and three foreign tourists, one of whom was a Vietnamese national. According to police, the event required prior registration through a private group chat, with administrators carefully selecting participants. Attempts to infiltrate the group failed, prompting the raid.
Drug tests revealed 97 individuals tested positive, leading to charges for 31 attendees (30 men and 1 woman) for drug possession and 66 others (65 men and 1 woman) for drug use. All suspects, aged over 20, agreed to enter rehabilitation programs.
Authorities confirmed on December 9 that individuals charged with drug use would be summoned for mandatory rehabilitation. Those found in possession of narcotics remain in custody and face detention at the South Bangkok District Court or the South Bangkok Criminal Court, depending on the severity of their charges and the quantities involved.
The raid highlights police efforts to combat narcotics in Bangkok’s nightlife, with the operation uncovering an event involving high-profile attendees and organized planning.
