Myanmar National Arrested for Violating Tak’s Burning Ban

Authorities in Tak province’s Mae Ramat district have arrested a Myanmar national for illegally burning sugarcane leaves, violating a provincial ban aimed at curbing air pollution. The individual was apprehended in Mae Cha Rao subdistrict and handed over to police following an inspection of the area.

The enforcement operation was conducted under the directive of District Chief Parinya Sairot, with officials from the Mae Ramat Volunteer Defense Corps Unit 6 and other agencies inspecting a five-rai sugarcane field. They discovered evidence of open burning, with some areas still emitting smoke. Upon questioning local workers, authorities identified the suspect as a 56-year-old Myanmar national, who admitted to using a cigarette lighter to ignite the fire.

The burning ban in Tak is part of broader government efforts to reduce hazardous PM2.5 pollution and mitigate health and environmental risks. Officials have intensified enforcement, emphasizing the negative impact of open burning on air quality. Residents and agricultural workers have been urged to comply with regulations to prevent worsening pollution levels.

Further inquiries revealed that the suspect had entered Thailand illegally, compounding the charges against him. He was taken into custody and transferred to Mae Ramat Police Station for legal proceedings related to both immigration and environmental violations.
