Det Udom District Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani is appealing for public donations following a devastating arson attack on February 2, which caused extensive damage to medical equipment and hospital facilities. The fire, which broke out on the third floor, has led to estimated losses of approximately 100 million baht, forcing the evacuation of all patients.
Hospital director Dr. Prasert Srisarakham stated that the structural damage to the third floor alone is estimated at 20 million baht, while the destruction of medical equipment is valued between 60 and 80 million baht. The hospital is now seeking financial support to replace essential medical resources and restore operations.
Authorities have identified a middle-aged man as the suspect, who has been in police custody since the incident. According to police reports, he allegedly scouted the hospital on January 26 after renting a car at Ubon Ratchathani Airport. On February 2, he returned with a gun and a plastic bag containing gasoline, which he ignited on the third floor. Police stated that the suspect appears to have no mental health issues and has admitted to planning the attack in advance.
