Thailand’s army chief has called for national unity as the country faces rising tensions along its border with Cambodia, affirming the military’s commitment to protecting sovereignty and supporting the constitutional monarchy.
Army Commander-in-Chief General Pana Klaewplodthuk stated in a press release on 19 June 2025 that the armed forces remain dedicated to defending Thailand’s sovereignty and upholding its democratic system with the King as head of state. He emphasized the need for all Thais to remain united in the face of challenges posed by potential destabilizing forces.
The statement came as Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra convened an emergency meeting with senior military leaders and Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai to review intelligence from the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration Centre.
Those present at the briefing included Supreme Commander General Songwit Noonpackdee and General Pana Klaewplodthuk.
