An Exciting New Tour Exploring Bangkok’s Hidden Temples

As part of the “Unfolding Bangkok” event, which runs through December 25th, the city government has introduced a new tour of the capital’s secret temples.

The event was put on by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), the Creative Economy Agency (CEA), and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to promote tourism in Bangkok. In 2023, there will be more trips with the themes “Greeting Benjakitti” and “Living Old Buildings.”

As part of a new tour series called “Hidden Temples,” visitors will be shown around some of the city’s less well-known religious sites.

On Saturday, December 10th, Deputy Bangkok Governor Sanon Wangsrangboon was among the guests at Bangkok Noi’s Wat Phumarin Ratchapaksi and Wat Dusitdaram. Guests were led by members of the CEA, the Urban Ally Center, and the Architecture Department at Silpakorn University on a tour of five temples on the Thon Buri side of the city.

Sanon claims the festival would increase tourism, educate attendees about local culture (including Buddhism and traditional food), and boost the local economy.

Beginning on November 12th, the first round of tours focused on the Talat Phlu area’s Wat Intharam and Wat Chantaram—Wat Ratcha Khruet. Tours of Bang Yi Khan’s Wat Phraya Siri Aisawan, Wat Suaansawan, and Wat Kharuhabodi will conclude on December 17 and last for five days.
