Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, his deputy Sanon Wangsrangboon, and city clerk Khachit Chattawanit met to discuss the opening of pedestrian walkways beneath Bangkok’s Na Phra Lan Road.
Wisanu Subsompon, the deputy governor of Bangkok, has said that the tunnel has been built and that the only remaining work is to test the elevators, escalators, and electrical, drainage, and ventilation systems. The first tunnel is 96 meters long and 6.6 meters below ground at the crossroads of Na Phra Lan and Na Phra That, with access points close to Sanam Luang and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
Wisanu claims that the tunnels around Na Phra That stretch for 37 meters and have two elevators, a staircase, and two escalators close to the three tunnel entrances.
In order to pay for upkeep, including the 28 million baht monthly power bill, Wisanu stated the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will pursue commercial growth. He also mentioned that the BMA’s panel has suggested holding a bidding process to choose a company to help manage the tunnels.
