Prime Minister Heads Global Declaration to Combat Corruption

At an event commemorating International Anti-Corruption Day, the Prime Minister led a declaration condemning corruption and called on all Thais to do their bit to ensure the country remains corruption-free.

Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha announced in his inaugural speech that the government has made combating corruption a top priority.

The government is actively seeking public participation in performing surveillance and inspections, and as a result, more avenues have been opened for the general people to register allegations of corruption.

Gen. Prayut has warned that any corrupt officials, regardless of rank, would be punished severely. He also guaranteed that there would be zero tolerance for corruption in policymaking, yet he acknowledged that everyone’s help would be necessary to achieve success.

Official bribery and other forms of misbehavior led to a 35 on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for Thailand in 2021. Thailand ranks #6 among the ASEAN countries and #110 overall.

Early in 2020, we should get the CPI for 2022.
