Officials in Thailand have vowed to keep fighting until human trafficking is eradicated. Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, Thailand’s deputy prime minister, has lately ordered strict measures to be executed in order to assist Thailand reach Tier 1 status on the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand presided over a meeting last week of the Thai government’s Anti-Human Trafficking Committee and its related coordination and administration committee.
At the conference, the Royal Thai Police reported that they had opened a processing center in Bangkok’s Don Mueang neighborhood to aid victims of human trafficking.
While continuing to help victims of trafficking, Gen. Prawit has urged authorities to aggressively pursue preventative and suppressive measures against human trafficking.
Officials are taking these steps in the hopes that the United States and the rest of the world will take notice of the progress being made in Thailand.
A draft of Thailand’s report on anti-trafficking activities in 2022, including the country’s successes in prosecuting traffickers, enforcing the law, protecting victims, and preventing future trafficking incidents, has also been authorized by the anti-trafficking committee.
Also, the committee gave its stamp of approval to the nomination of Police General Thammasak Witchayara to the position of co-chair of the joint subcommittee tasked with establishing the Center of Excellence on Counter Trafficking in Persons between Thailand and Australia.
